About The Collection

The Schorr Collection is a privately held collection and one of the largest of its kind in the world. The collection has been built up over the last 35 years and now numbers more than 400 works. The collection ranges from 15th century devotional images to 19th century French Impressionist landscapes.

Old Master artists range from Rubens, Tintoretto, El Greco, Turner, Ingres, Delacroix and Cranach to Impressionists such as Pissarro and Sisley. While individual pieces have been loaned to many public institutions in the UK and abroad, the Schorr Collection is a museé imaginaire rather than a permanent display.

An exhibition of 60 works from the collection was on show from 18 February 2011–15 May 2011, at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool seen by over 31,000 visitors. An 160pp exhibition catalogue written by Christopher Wright with full colour images and in depth text on all the featured paintings, plus supporting essays, accompanied the exhibition. The two-volume publication is the first time the collection in its entirety has been seen. The Plates volume groups the works by chronology and location, with each work shown in colour, along with a full description. The Catalogue volume has a biography of each artist and a full provenance of each work and includes similar and alternative versions. This volume numbers 400 pages and the two volumes are sold in a beautiful slip case. Over half the collection is on long term loan to museums and public bodies in the UK and abroad.
