Portrait of Marthe Ménil François Hotte Barrois

Lefevre, Robert (1755-1830)

The portrait conforms to the standard style evolved during the late eighteenth century in France. There is a slight element of surprise as the sitter wears a prominent earring, which was briefly fashionable at the time. Barrois was Governor of Westphalia, as confirmed by an inscription on the back of the canvas.
