Portrait of a man with a skull and flowers

Ligozzi, Bartolomeo (1630-95)

This enigmatic portrait is clearly the work of collaboration of two artists as the flowers are painted in an entirely different style from the portrait itself. The flowers can be attributed to the Florentine Ligozzi as they are distinctive enough to be associated Ligozzi’s numerous flower studies, which are mostly preserved in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence.
