Swiss landscape

Scheutzer, Wilhelm (1803-66)

One of three landscapes that correspond to a general Central European style for the painting of mountains. This is a combination of a realistic approach with a certain adjustment for compositional reasons. Two of the landscapes form a pair and given the style employed, could well come from the early part of the artist’s career. The Swiss landscape is painted in a slightly different style but the handling of the trees is similar to the other two.
