Portrait of Daniel François Voisin (1654 - 1717)

Rigaud, Hyacinthe Francois (1659-1743)

There has been some dispute over the identity of the sitter, and from the picture it is easily seen that the work dates from the end of the seventeenth century, rather than the beginning of the eighteenth. Daniel François Voisin is mentioned in Rigaud’s sitter’s book for 1715, but this is rather too late for the sitter as depicted in the painting.  The striking red of the sitter’s robes is typical of Rigaud’s ability to capture worldly magnificence.
