Portrait of a man with an architectural background

Neapolitan School, (17th century)

The sitter has not been identified. He appears Spanish in attitude, although the style of the painting appears Neapolitan. He wears the high flat collar, golilla, which took the place of the ruff in Spanish costume c.1623. The architectural background appears more Italian than Spanish but the details seem far too vague for any convincing location to be suggested.
