The sitter of this enigmatic portrait remains unidentified. The attribution of this high quality picture remains unresolved. It bears some resemblance to the portrait style of Murillo (1617-1682) although the picture does not appear to be by him. The alternative is that the picture is Italian but there is no convincing comparison with any of the artists whose portrait style is currently defined. The dating to is enigmatic as both the artistic style and costume could place it somewhere in the middle years of the seventeenth century.
