Portrait of a man in a beret

Flinck, Govaert (1615-60)

In this very carefully executed picture, Flinck, in sheer virtuosity of technique, could rival Rembrandt himself.  As so often happens for Dutch portraits, the sitter remains unidentified as is the case with Nicolaes Maes (q.v.). The informality of the portrait suggests that it may not have been an official commission.
