Portrait of Louis-Marie-Joseph, comte de Brigode-Kemlandt

Gros, Antoine Jean (1771-1835)

This picture is a good example of the artist’s accomplishment as a portraitist, even though his reputation was made in painting subjects from Napoleonic history. Gros responded particularly well to the elaborate costumes of the period. The sitter is shown in his elaborate uniform presumably after having been made a count of the Napoleonic Empire in 1809.
