Carolus-Duran, Charles Emile Auguste (1837-1917)

Painted while the artist was in exile in Brussels as a consequence of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The artist has not changed his opulent Third Empire style. There is a brilliant effect of the low sheen on the grey satin dress.
