The Saint is shown in a standard pose, with a skull and a book which symbolises his translation of the bible into Latin, which became known as The Vulgate. This is a much simplified iconography and quite unlike the 16th century preference for showing him at work in his study. He is also shown in the wilderness of Chalcis (see the workshop of Benson). This Baroque representation of the Saint is also seen in the works of Faccini and Claude Vignon.
