The Annunciation

Rottenhammer, Hans (1561-1625) (after)

Rottenhammer also painted a large version of this subject as an altarpiece for S. Bartolomeo, Venice, where it remains. The subject was evidently popular with the artist, as there is a closely related version in the Museum of Latvian Art in Riga. The artist painted many small coppers of this type, and he did not always work them up into an identical composition on a large scale.
