This picture is painted in the same style as that of the artist’s father, Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, but it can be related to several pictures now attributed to Giovanni Francesco. The same bold treatment of animals in a landscape setting with vivacious figures can be seen, and the differences between father and son are only discernible in the handling of the paint. The source for this composition is found in a painting by Giovanni Benedetto of a similar subject, A Journey of the Patriarchs (Rebecca led by the servant of Abraham), in The Barber Institute at Birmingham.
