A bearded man with a woman feeding cherries to a parrot

Jordaens, Jacob (1593-1678)

Jordaens was in the habit of repeating his favourite compositions usually with variations of handling. Sometimes several versions were executed at the same time or as in this instance taken up later in the artist’s career. The richer palette and darker tones indicate the artist’s later style. The first version much brighter in colour is usually dated c1637, but this one is probably at least a decade later.
