Fermière rentrant chez elle

Lepine, Stanislas Victor Edouard (1835-92)

The treatment of this intimately treated subject is strongly reminiscent of the artist’s master Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796-1873) with its pale ochre and violet tones. The light handling of the paint also reflects Corot’s touch. The scene is reduced to generalised forms which inspires a rural mood rather than a depiction of a specific place, again seen in Corot.
