Ribera, Jusepe de (c.1590-1652)

These two enigmatic figures appear to form a pair but may well have belonged to a larger series, even though the lack of obvious attributes would suggest that they were not Saints or Apostles.  They are more likely to be simple genre pieces.   It has now been realised that pictures of this type are the early work of Ribera when in Rome, and in his first years in Naples.
