Holy Family with St. John the Baptist

Fra' Paolino da Pistoia (1488-1547)

By the time this picture was painted in the 1530s, it was already in an old fashioned style, harking back to the late 15th century. The artist was obviously uninterested in the developments in nearby Florence especially the mannerist style evolved by Pontormo and Rosso Florentino (1494-1540). The landscape background is carefully observed and shows the Tuscan countryside.
