On stylistic grounds this picture has been dated to the period c1810-1815. This would accord well with the apparent age of the sitter, who was a successful banker. The artist has toned down somewhat his characteristic bravura.  Greenwood’s sister Anne married Thomas Hammersley, the father of Hugh Hammersley, also painted by Lawrence.
