Calame, Alexandre (1810-64)

Most of Calame’s landscapes have mountains as their main subjects as is the case here, although they were often generalised scenes rather than an accurate description of a specific site. Calame’s gift lay in combining a realism of approach, tinged with some level of romanticism in the atmosphere and colour.
